The Lo’ Sound is a radio show on Edge Radio 99.3, produced in Hobart, Tasmania. Encompassing the many sub genres of Doom Metal and Stoner Rock. Each week we present a running theme to the show and try to collate music and bands that fit said theme.
The Lo’ Sound started in October 2023 by Stu after the concept came to him whilst conversing with an intergalactic space goat during a period of trans-dimensional sleep apnea. The goats name was Andy.

Stu Balls has spent years immersed in the low-frequency world of stoner rock, heavy psych, doom and sludge, a lifelong love affair with music that sounds like it was recorded somewhere beneath a mountain.
His broadcasting journey began more than 12 years ago, taking him from RTRFM92.1 in Perth WA to Edge Radio 99.3 in Hobart, Tasmania, where he continues to unleash the heavier, fuzzier and stranger side of the musical spectrum.
Before the radio waves, Stu was also behind a sludge-driven cooking show on YouTube, combining his two great passions: ridiculously heavy music and ridiculously good food.
From the kitchen to the studio, Stu has spent over a decade championing underground sounds, digging up obscure riffs, crushing fuzz pedals and introducing listeners to the weird, wonderful and downright filthy world of heavy music.
Andy Static
Andy Static is a veteran of the Tasmanian underground, with a long and noisy history of playing in punk, fuzz rock and heavy music bands across the island.
Years spent surrounded by amplifiers, feedback, distortion and questionable musical decisions have given him an encyclopedic knowledge of the heavier corners of the scene.
With Icelandic blood running through his veins, Andy brings the fiery spirit of a Viking of musical knowledge to everything he does, fiercely passionate, endlessly curious and always ready to dig deeper into the riff.
Andy is also the founder of City Boy Studios in Hobart, which he has built from the ground up into a successful recording and creative business. More than just a studio, City Boy has become an important part of Tasmania's live music community, supporting local bands, artists and the broader underground scene.
